Heritage Research Grant 2018
The heritage research grant 2018, sponsored by the National Heritage Board is currently open for proposals and applications. This grant is to encourage higher institutions of learning, thinkers, NGOs, and researchers to carry out heritage-related projects for the preservation and documentation of Singapore’s heritage. The grant is open to all researchers that met the needed criteria.

Heritage And Identity
This topic calls for research on qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how heritage could contribute to building a Singaporean sense of belonging and identity.

Intangible Cultural Heritage
Here, all interested researchers are required to consult the 2003 UNESCO convention for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage (article 2) and the National Heritage Board’s inventory of intangible heritage for the definitions and domains of ICH that includes
- Oral Traditions and Expressions
- Performing Arts
- Festive events, rituals, and social practices
- Traditional craftsmanship
- Food heritage

Tangible Heritage
It involves research on historic buildings, structures, and sites in Singapore; although research on international tangible heritage will outcomes linked to Singapore can be considered for funding.
Funding Information for Heritage Research Grant 2018
The maximum amount per research is $150,000 which supports research costs including manpower costs, fieldwork associated costs, and indirect research costs charged by the applicant’s institution.
Eligibility Criteria
Researchers endorsed by local institutes of higher learning, research institutions, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are qualified to apply. The applicant must have a strong and reputable track record in academic research and must show a very strong interest in Singapore’s heritage.
