Small Grant Program From African Research Network 2018

The small grant program from African research network 2018 is currently open for application from researchers from the African continent. This grant is sponsored by the African research network for neglected tropical diseases (ARNTD) with support from the US Agency for international development as well as UK aid from the British government. This agency is currently accepting proposals for operational and social science research on the emerging challenges confronting the neglected tropical disease (NTD) program implementation in the African continent.

This is actually the second edition of the Small Grant Program (SGP II) with the sole purpose of supporting African researchers in both the early and mid/late career to carry out operational research that is in line with the objectives of the London declaration on neglected tropical diseases.

Categories Of Small Grant Program From African Research Network 2018

  1. the small grants for junior researchers
  2. small grants for the mid-career and/or senior researchers

Funding Information

For the junior researchers at the Maters and/or Ph.D. level, the amount available to them ranges from $5,000 to $15,000. A smaller number of grants will be made available for the mid-career and/or senior researchers ranging from $15,000 to $25,000.

Objectives of Small Grant Program From African Research Network 2018

  1. To promote African leadership involvement, visibility, and involvement in neglected tropical diseases operational and social science research.
  2. To strengthen African research institutions as well as improving the research capacity of the existing cadre of African NTD researchers.
  3. To provide an enabling environment for the upcoming researchers in the African continent

Eligibility Criteria

For an individual to qualify for this grant, he/she must satisfy these criteria:

  • The applicant must be currently employed as a student in an academic, health, or research institution in Africa for the duration of this grant.
  • Must be committed to NTD related research as well as possess the required skill set to carry out the proposed work.
  • Must tender an evidence of research output that includes publications and/or presentations at scientific conferences.

For The Junior Researchers Grants:

  • The applicant must be an early career researcher, seen as a biomedical scientist, clinically qualified investigator, or public health researcher that has not previously competed successfully as principal investigator for a major research grant (above USD 200,000)
  • Must have a Masters degree or is currently enrolled in doctoral studies.
  • Must not hold positions above lecturer/assistant professor level or equivalent at the time of applying for this grant.
  • The applicant must be able to provide a written evidence of commitment to providing mentorship and supervision from a senior researcher that has a track record and ongoing commitment to NTD research.

The Mid-Career/Senior Researchers Grants:

  • The applicant must be a mid-career/senior researcher, seen as a biomedical scientist, clinically qualified investigator, or public health researcher that has previously competed successfully as principal investigator for a major research grant but is not more than fifteen years from their highest degree of study.
  • the applicant must be a doctoral degree holder and al clinicians who have not completed their Ph.D. have completed specialist training.
  • Must hold a position that is not lower than Senior lecturer or senior scientific officer level or its equivalent.
  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she has a track record and ongoing commitment to NTD research
