A telecom tariff plan is a package a customer operates his/her SIM on. This tariff plan puts tax, call rates, customer satisfaction, telecom company’s returns, as well as other charges that may be applicable into consideration. Telecom tariffs basically include call rates and price plan.
Tariff plans vary because charges on them also vary. How much a telecom service provider charges for one tariff is different from another, because various other factors come into play, as we have mentioned above.
That been said, there are tariffs that can perfectly suite yor lifestyle, all you need is a bit of information. Airtel has a number of tariffs that allow cheaper call rates. Airtel SmartConnect is my recommended plan. But you can only get on this tariff with a new SIM.

Airtel smartTALK 2.0
SmartTalk is top on my list because … wow! This prepaid tariff charges only 11 Kobo per second, to all other networks in Nigeria, from the very first second! The only catch is, you’re charged a ₦6 access fee on your first call of the day.
For calls to USA, China, Canada, UK landline and India, you’re charged ₦0.20K per second! Cheaper talk, is SmartTalk. What a juicy package!
Subscribers with less than ₦5 in their main account balance cannot make the first call of the day, whether on-net or off-net. This restriction is not applicable to subscribers with active voice bundles such as Premier Connect, Talk More and Weekend MAX EXTRA.

Migrating to this juicy tariff is a very simple task. All you need to do is dial *315# or send YES as a text message to 315 to activate. And that’s it. Your calls to all networks at 11kobo per second is activated!

- Daily Access Fee: N5.00 Naira (100 – 5 = N95.00 left)
- 11kobo X 60 seconds = N6.6k

All calls within Nigeria will be charged from your main and bonus accounts, while international calls will be charged from your main account balance.
All call to family and friends (that are registered on the network) will be charged from the Family and Friends bonus.

Main Account: 100 Naira @ 30 N/M gives 100/30 = 3.333 minutes talktime.
Voice bonus account: N250 @ 36 N/M gives 250/36 = 6.94 minutes talktime.
F & F account: N100 @ 24 N/M gives 100/24 = 4.17 minutes talktime.
Total = 3.33 + 6.94 + 4.17 = 14.44 minutes or 14 minutes 26 seconds talktime.
- International Calls
The call rate is 50 K/s or 30 N/min on main and voice accounts.
With total airtime of 100 + 250 = 350 Naira charges @ 30N/min.
Talktime = 350/30 = 11.67 minutes or 11 minutes 40 seconds.
From the above, we deduce that local calls with ₦100 Airtime can last upto 14 minutes 44 seconds or 14 minutes 26 seconds. For international calls, the same amount can last upto 11 minutes 40 seconds of talk time.
