New Nominations for the 120 Under 40 are Opened For Application
New Generation of Family Planning Leaders, are for young champions of family planning. For the generation of leaders making a difference in reproductive health worldwide. This project is from Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health in the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with support from Bayer Bayer.
120 Under 40: The New Generation of Family Planning Leaders recognizes and highlights the achievements of the next generation of family planning leaders worldwide. The project launched on September 26, 2015, World Contraception Day — an annual event that focuses international attention on enabling young people to make informed decisions about family planning and reproductive health. Three rounds are planned: 2016, 2017 and 2019.
What You Gain For Been Nominated
- Winners smile home with $1,000 from the Gates Institute.
- Every nominee will have a profile on 120under40.org, which describes their achievements and contributions to the field.
- The winners are chosen from this pool of nominees by the public, via online voting, and by a jury of experts and leaders in family planning, via scoring. After online voting and jury review close, the project secretariat combines the scores and determines the 40 winners, all of whom receive $1,000 from the Gates Institute to continue their work in family planning and/or begin innovative new projects.
Qualification For To Be Nominated At 120 Under 40
- No self-nominations will be accepted.
- You must be 40 years old or younger by December 31, 2019, and must have made significant achievement to family planning in this area:

- Programming/Program Implementation
- Demand Generation
- Media
- Policy/Government
- Research
- Service Delivery
- You can not be nominated if you are a Staff at Gates Institute
- Previous Nominees 2016 and 2017 can be re-nominated for 2019.
How To Apply
- Complete the form to nominate a young family planning leader for 120 Under 40.
- As soon as you complete your nomination for, your will be notify in your email and will be asked to fill out a profile, which will be posted to the 120 Under 40 website. Please encourage your nominee to upload a photo and complete his/her profile, as incomplete profiles will be removed from the site before voting begins.
Nominate: Each project year (2016, 2017 and 2019), 120 Under 40 accepts nominations of young people who have made significant contributions to family planning worldwide. Past winners are not eligible to be nominated again.
Vote: Each project year, 40 winners are chosen by the public via online voting and a jury of experts and leaders in family planning. Nominees who receive at least 75 public votes pass to the jury scoring round, in which they are scored by a panel of experts in family planning according to the published evaluation criteria. Finally, the project secretariat reviews the results and determines the winners, all of whom receive $1,000 from the Gates Institute
Celebrate: The 40 winners for each project year are announced in September. Each project year officially wraps up on September 26, World Contraception Day. The process took place for the first time in 2016, and for the second time in 2017. It will repeat once more in 2019 so that 120 young family planning champions will be assembled by 2020, a highly significant year for the family planning community.
